Rob and Deborah attended a meeting of Lowcountry Local First, in Charleston, SC. We presented with 2 other local entrepreneurs, Charleston Mattress Company and Charleston Garment Manufactory, and shared our ideas about keeping manufacturing local. As you know, we are determined to manufacture the WhirlyBird Repeller in the USA, and primarily in South Carolina. But, it’s a challenge to stay in our own backyard and build our business to keep birds off your boats, docks and all other structures where birds can be a nuisance.
Here’s what Jamee Haley, Executive Director of Lowcountry Local First wrote in her blog, “WhirlyBird Solutions is a great gadget that is used to repel birds. Yes, we love birds flying in the sky but we aren’t too happy when they ruin a crop, destroy a sign or cover a dock with their loveliness. I am thinking of the waterfront park downtown and all the birds that nest in the rafters there. Seems like Whirly Bird might have the solution. Rob’s honesty about his struggles to manufacture his product locally were honest and his stubborness appreciated! We also know we want Rob to succeed in his endeavor and that unless things change he has a tough road ahead in making that happen … Yes, we have pride in our place, we should and we do appreciate the jobs created when something is made here, the store owner who carries the local product and the fierce determination of that manufacturer who is committed to their community.”
Thank you Jamee and everyone who attended and shared ideas. You can read Jamee’s blog in its entirety at Manufacturing in the Lowcountry
